Whitehall Decorating Contest - 2008

Congratulations to the winners of the 2008 Whitehall Decorating Contest, and a special thank you goes to Brian and Stephanie Chase who volunteered to lead the effort this year.

The 2008 winners are listed below, starting with

Most Creative: The Ferralli's.

We do not have a picture of this display because, well, how can you take a picture of such a beautiful and dynamic sight - especially when it keeps changing!

The Erie Times News paid tribute to the creativity of Ian Ferralli in a January 3, 2008 Editorial which stated: "Power surge. In a season of economic doom and gloom, we extend a big thank-you to holiday celebrants for illuminating our streets, lanes and avenues with bright, cheery bursts of lights. The unofficial prize goes to Ian Ferralli, the 16-year-old Fairview High School student who created "Deck the Whitehalls -- 2008," a musical light show at his family's home at 7275 Springside Drive. Visitors tuned into 106.5 FM on the car radio to enjoy the synchronized lights galloping along to the music of "Carol of the Bells." Many others braved the bitter cold and snow to string their houses with displays that made our Yuletide bright. We appreciate your efforts (and your willingness to foot the electric bill)." (We will try to get a video link up as soon as we get our IT Department up and running after the holiday)

Over All Winner: The Walter's

Single Door: The Lashingers

Porch: The Jacobs

Single Door Winner: The Goodwin's

Double Door Winner: The DeMarco's

Neighborhood News

It was recently reported that some vandals threw a wine bottle at a house in Whitehall the other night. Apparently, the vandal had taken the wine bottle out of the recycling bin and threw it at the house. The vandal then drove off, but we have no description of the vehicle. The state police have been called and the matter has been reported. No real damage was done and this was most likely a senseless and random act of violence. This event occurred around 4 a.m.

We ask that you keep an eye out for anything suspicious and to look out for your neighbors.

Along with keeping an eye on things it may be a good idea to leave your porch and garage lights on at night. The number for the State Police is 774-9611. If you have an emergency situation, and/or are aware of a crime in progress, please call 911.

As you know, Whitehall is a very safe neighborhood. We strive to keep it that way. If you see anything suspicious, please report it promptly.

Happy New Year!
